| This year’s gifts from Confirmation services will go directly to providing 3,000 Bibles for young people in the small African country of Burundi in Africa. The church in Burundi is growing rapidly, so although rich spiritually, its people are poor in terms of resources. Some 12,000 people of all ages are confirmed each year across the six dioceses; most of these cannot afford to buy a Bible. By giving to our confirmation project this year, you will provide Bibles for the young people of Burundi. A Bible bought locally costs approximately £3 (which is two days wages in Burundi and equates to about £150 in the UK). Would you buy a Bible if it cost £150? Perhaps not, but a £3 donation here in the UK will buy a Bible for someone in Burundi. Bishop Paul, said: ‘I’ve had the amazing privilege of sharing in a confirmation service in Burundi – it is a humbling and awesome experience. A Bible is the equivalent of several days wages for many who are confirmed. So we can celebrate this ‘Year of the Bible’ in the UK by giving this most precious resource to young people in Burundi who will treasure it, read and study it, live by it and share the good news from it with others. Please be really generous and let’s see if we can buy 3000 Bibles between us.’ | ![]()
