World Development Adviser

The Word Development Adviser- Mrs Shelagh Baird-Smith

Direct Line: 01636 817988      E-mail: shelagh@southwell.anglican.org

The purpose of the World Development Adviser is two-fold; to develop awareness in the parishes, deaneries and dicoese of global mission issues and local implications; and to ensure that these are integral to the training and work of the Diocese.

Specifically this focuses on three main areas:

  • Fairtrade and World Development.  I monitor and maintain the qualification as a Fairtrade Diocese and promote Fairtrade across the Diocese.  I hold and communicate information from NGO's, both Christian and non-Christian, about current development issues including Trade Justice, Debt Relief and the effects of climate change.
  • Natal Link.  I have been involved with this since being a member of the group which visited Natal with Bishop George in 2004 and relate the link to Partners in World Mission and the national mission agencies.
  • Environment Officer.  I am also the Diocesan Environment Officer, leading the steering group for our own Diocesan Environment Policy and linking it to the Shrinking the Footprint initiative from Church House. To download our environment policy click here
