| Developing Mission and Ministry The Director of Development - The Revd Canon Alan Payne Direct Line: 01636 817216 E-mail: alanp@southwell.anglican.org My task is to lead and manage this seventeen strong department, in collaboration with the Associate Directors, Nigel Rooms and David McCoulough. Together we are responsible for encouraging, challenging and supporting people in parishes, deaneries, and the diocese to join together in the Mission of God and in Ministry to His people. We try to see the whole picture of our diocese's engagement with indivuals, organisations and communities in Nottingham City and County and develop strategies for growth and change to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Enabling Change My skills are in the areas of adult learning, organisational and group dynamics and strategic thinking. I offer to parishes consultation on organisational change, development of patterns of ministry and collaborative ways of working. I believe change is not to be feared but is at the heart of our task as a church. We are called individually to be "changed from glory into glory" and corporately to join in God's work of transforming the "kingdoms of this world to become the Kingdom of our God." Communication and Collaboration I have responsibility to communicate and collaborate with the directors of other departments, the Bishop's Council and the Bishop's Staff and to be accountable for the work of the department through Bishop's Council to Diocesan Synod. Ministerial Development I oversee the Clergy Development Scheme, which encourages ministers to review their vocation and work, set themselves realistic and appropriate targets and maintain a healthy work life balance. |  Theology and Development Some thoughts from a Department Meeting Development is connected with the theology of creation. God made us in his image with the potential to be children of God. We are excited to see that potential realised through training and review. Development is about hope for the future of the church and the world rooted in openness to God's grace. Development is having the courage, like Abraham, to step into God's unknown future. Development is about facing reality, learning how to use and let go of power and working better together as the Body of Christ. |
