Ministry & Mission

Purpose

Ministry is of and for all laos, all God's people and is borne of Christian calling, discipleship and service.  Ministry is placed at the service of the mission of God (Missio Dei) which is always and everywhere.  God equips the saints for ministry (Ephesians 4.12). 

A balanced ministry requires three ministerial elements of oversight, of word and sacrament and of service. The Anglican Ordinal recognises the ordained ministry of bishops, priests and deacons.  In the diocese we also value the licensed ministries of Licensed Lay Ministers (Readers) and Church Army evangelists and the distinctive contribution of religius communities.  In the parishes Recognised Lay Ministers offer themselves in a variety of different specialisms after undertaking the Diocesan Certificate in Lay Ministry.  There are also the important roles fulfilled by Churchwardens and members of the Parochial Church Councils, and by parishioners in their church commitments and daily lives.
