Burning Brightly: Carrying the Light of Christ in Church Schools Last year, we celebrated 200 years of Church Schools and the formation of The National Society. A major part of our celebrations was a candle journey. Each of our 70 church schools held a special service to reflect on what it meant to be a church school. Schools invited parents and community to join with them in their celebrations. The candle was passed from school to school and eventually arrived back at Southwell Minster on 19th November for a Service of Thanksgiving to which all our church schools were invited. We also sent a diocesan party to a National Service held at Westminster Abbey in October. Those people who attended included children who had been winners of a competition to design a banner representing our diocese to be carried in as part of the service. The completed banner, sewn for us by Mrs Maureen Rogers is shown below | ![]() ![]()
