Ten parishes welcome newly ordained clergy this weekend
Ten parishes across Nottinghamshire will be welcoming new members of clergy next weekend, when they are ordained into new roles in the Church of England during a colourful service of celebration at Southwell Minster this Sunday (29th June 2008).
The eleven candidates have a wide range of work experiences, from teaching and lecturing to working in industry from engineering and geology to administration and cleaning.
A further seven parish clergy will also be ordained as priests at 5pm on Saturday, 28th June at the Minster (see list below and editor’s note).
The following candidates will be ordained as Deacons by the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Revd George Cassidy at 11am on Sunday 29th June 2007 at Southwell Minster.
KATE BOTTLEY. Kate, originally from South Yorkshire, is married to Graham and they have two children, Ruby (6) and Arthur (4). Kate is a former Secondary Head of Religious Studies and prior to training worked as a vicar’s P.A. Having trained at Saint John’s College, Nottingham, she is to serve her title in a pioneer curacy with the Revd Dr Richard Kellett at Skegby Stanton Hill and Teversal.
RICHARD COLDICOTT. Richard is married to Fiona and they have three children: Aaron (8), Isaac (5) and Gloria (2). He has been a Chemistry Teacher, and latterly was the Head of Department at Nottingham High School. Having trained at Trinity College, Bristol, he is to serve his title with the Revd Jon Hutchinson in the parish of St Margaret’s, Aspley.
PHILIP CORBETT. Philip is originally from Sunderland and after studying theology at the University of St Andrews went on to read liturgical studies at Yale University and Ecclesiastical History at the University of Oxford. He trained at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, is to serve his title at Worksop Priory with the Revd Nicolas Spicer.
ADRIAN DEMPSTER. Adrian is married to Maureen, live in Selston and have three children, Morag (27), Sally (23) and Nathan (20). Adrian is a structural engineering consultant in Nottingham and a member of the Diocesan Advisory Committee. Having trained on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course, he will be serving his title with the Revd Wendy Patchell in the parish of St Wilfrid, Kirkby in Ashfield.
CLAIRE GOODE. Claire is married to Pete and they have four children: James (19), Helena (17) and twins Alicia & Christabel (12). Claire has previously been a lecturer in Further Education teaching a range of subjects from Business Administration and IT skills to A Level Geography and GCSE Sciences. She has trained for ministry initially on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course and has completed her ordination training at the Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham. She will be serving her title with the Revds Glynis Hetherington and Steve Osman in the South Notts Cluster of Parishes around East Leake, Gotham and Sutton Bonnington.
TINA HODGETT. Tina worked as a German and Russian teacher and senior manager at a girls’ school in Hertfordshire before taking up consultancy work on a Sixth Form project for a group of schools and colleges in Harrow. She completed ministry training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. She will be serving her title in a pioneer curacy with the Revd Peter Huxtable at St Mark’s, Bestwood Village and Emmanuel, Bestwood.
PAUL LAWLOR. Paul is married to Judith and they have two daughters: Alison (17) and Zoe (19). He worked as Technical Director of a small industrial software company prior to training at St John’s College, Nottingham. He will be serving his title with the Revd Kathryn Herrod in the parish of St Peter and St Paul Warsop with Sookholme.
JO STEPHENS. Jo is married to Kelvin and they have two children: George (11) and Ellie (9). Kelvin is a Police Sergeant and Jo was a domestic cleaner before training for ministry at St John’s College, Nottingham. She will be serving her title with the Revd Paul Reynolds in the parish of St Michael’s, Bramcote.
DIANE TREGALE. Diane is married to Jono and they have two young children: Joshua (6) and Emily (3). Diane has previously worked as director of a city-wide church schools work project in Exeter. Before training for ministry at St John's College, Nottingham she was children’s director of a church in NW London. She has also trained at Moorlands College and Spurgeon’s College. Working on a job-share basis with Jono, she is to serve her title in a pioneer curacy with the Revd David Rowe in the parish of St Wilfrid’s, Wilford and the Nottingham Emmanuel School.
JONO TREGALE. Jono is married to Diane and they have two young children: Joshua (6) and Emily (3). Jono has previously worked as a geologist, computer officer and youth worker in Exeter. Before training for ministry at St John's College, Nottingham he was youth director of a church in NW London, having previously studied at Cliff College. He is to serve his title on a job-share basis with Diane in a pioneer curacy, with the Revd David Rowe in the parish of St Wilfrid’s, Wilford and the Nottingham Emmanuel School.
MAGGIE WOODWARD. Maggie is married to Noel and they have four adult children. They live in Colwick and Maggie has previously worked as an Administrative Manager and in various other clerical jobs. Having trained on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course she will serve her title with the Revd John Chambers in the newly formed Fosse Group of parishes, including East Bridgford with Kneeton, Flintham and Car Colston with Screveton.
The following candidates will be ordained as priests at 5pm on Saturday 28th June 2008 at Southwell Minster.
JENNY CORCORAN. Jenny is married to Dan, who is curate at St Helen's and St Luke’s Stapleford. Jenny worked as a youth and children's worker in Buckinghamshire, before going to train at St John's College, Nottingham. She is serving her title with the Revd Alan Howe at Christ Church, Chilwell.
ANGELA FLETCHER. Angela is married to Anthony and they have two sons: Adam (23) and Andrew (21). She has been a Senior Family Worker for the local authority working with families in the community. Having trained on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course she is serving her title with the Revd Alistair Littlewood in the parishes of St Mary’s Edwinstowe and St John the Evangelist, Perlethorpe.
ANNE NOBLE. Anne is married to Stephen and they have two children: Rhiannon (17) and Beth (14). Both Anne and Steve are geologists and she has also worked as a playgroup assistant. Having trained for ministry at St John’s College Nottingham she is serving her title with the Revd Jerry Lepine in the parish of St Leonard’s, Wollaton.
NICK PELLING. Nick is married to Julie and they have one daughter Eliza (5). Nick has had various roles in Christian work and the voluntary sector including running a Christian sailing project, Director of a National disability charity and, prior to ordination was Manager of the Vine Community Centre at St Stephen’s Church in Hyson Green. He has trained on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course and is serving his title with the Revd Pat Hemstock in the parishes of the Southern Cluster of the Southwell Deanery.
MEGAN SMITH. Megan is a Consultant Paediatric Intensivist at Nottingham University Hospitals. She undertook initial theological training whilst living and working in inner-city Manchester. After a period living in Australia and Canada, Megan moved to Nottingham and completed training on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course. She is serving her title with the Revd David Rowe in the parish of St Wilfrid’s, Wilford.
CLAIRE TOWNS. Claire worked in Transport Planning in Lincolnshire before moving to Nottingham in 1998. Her present work is as a Team Leader in a Personality Disorder Unit of the NHS. She is also a qualified Counsellor. She trained for ordination at St. John’s College Nottingham and the East Midlands Ministry Training Course. She is serving title with Revd Wayne Plimmer in the parish of St. John the Baptist, Beeston.
STEPHEN WALES. Stephen is married to Ann, and they have two children: Jennifer 7, and Rebecca (1). Stephen worked for a firm of solicitors and as an Analyst for a Police Force prior to training at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield. Stephen is serving his title with the Revd Jonathan MacGillivray in the parish of St John the Evangelist Carrington.
All those being ordained are in retreat from the previous Thursday (June 26th) morning.
