A former Worksop College pupil is to be the new Canon for Education and Learning at Southwell Minster.
The Revd Canon Edward Pruen has been appointed to the new post by the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham from his current role as Chaplain for the Treloar School and College of Further Education in Hampshire.
He said: "I am delighted to be joining the worshipping community of Southwell Minster and especially look forward to becoming part of the ecumenical team at the Minster School. Having worked for many years with young people and their families in the wider community I now look forward to bringing their insights to the Church. To be invited to coordinate ‘life long learning’ in the Cathedral context is an exciting challenge. "
Edward Pruen will begin his new role on 1st September 2009. The Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Revd George Cassidy said: “I am very pleased that Edward Pruen is taking up this challenging new role with the cathedral and working with the Minster School. I am sure his wide experience with children and young people and in pastoral care in communities, hospitals and schools, will enable him to make an invaluable contribution to the diocese.”
Edward Pruen, was educated at Worksop College in Nottinghamshire and went on to study Theology at King’s College, London, followed by a pastoral studies course at St John’s College , Nottingham. After being ordained in 1979, he served as a curate in Kidderminster in the Diocese of Worcester, moving to become a curate and youth pastor in Woking in the Diocese of Guildford. In 1984 he became the assistant chaplain at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and then returned to Nottinghamshire in 1986 when he became Priest-in-Charge at St Andrew’s Church in Stapleford. After overseeing the refurbishment of the church, he moved to become a vicar in the Diocese of Winchester at a church on a large housing estate in Basingstoke. During this time he also worked part time as a chaplain at the local hospice. His current post as chaplain for the Treloar School and College in Hampshire, gives him the opportunity to minister among the 750 staff and 320 children and young adults with complex disabilities.
Edward is married to Margaret, who is a Special Needs School nurse. They have two children, Sean (24) and Fiona (22). Edward is a guitarist and singer and enjoys painting in watercolour, walking the dogs and travelling. |
