Bishop to join children's torchlight trail on weekend of events

A torchlight trail for children round one of Nottingham’s large churches will be the highlight of a special children’s party in Daybrook, when the special guest will be the Bishop of Sherwood.

The Rt Revd Tony Porter will be spending the weekend with members of St Paul’s, Daybrook, starting with a visit to Burford Primary and Nursery School on Oxclose Lane, on Friday, 25th November.

Bishop Tony will be talking to the children during an assembly, visiting classes and reading his own book, called ’Chips’ to some of the children. (PHOTO OPPROTUNITY - Bishop Tony reading to the children from 2.30pm - ring to confirm timing)

The weekend of events, including bingo and a 'rock n roll' quiz, is part of a series of visits by the Bishop to various parishes, where he will join in with activities and special services in the community.

Vicar of St Paul’s with St Timothy’s Daybrook, the Revd Sally Baylis said: “We are all very excited about the Bishop spending the weekend with us and it will be very special to have him here for our Advent Sunday service, as we begin to prepare for Christmas.”

Bishop Tony will be joined on the weekend by his wife Lucille, who is also President of diocesan Mothers’ Union. Following the visit to the school, Bishop Tony and Lucille will join in a family bingo night at Daybrook Constitutional Club at 7.30pm. On Saturday they will take part in the Children’s party and torchlight trail at St Paul’s from 3-5pm. In the evening there will be a 'Rock ‘n’ Roll' quiz at the Victory Club on Church Drive East Daybrook.

On Sunday Bishop Tony and Lucille will join in the advent service at St Paul’s at 10.30am.
