Archbishop of York to join tri-school celebration

The Archbishop of York, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu will join pupils from three Nottinghamshire Church of England schools to celebrate their new buildings and their future development.

Representatives from the Minster School, Southwell, Nottingham Bluecoat School and Nottingham Emmanuel School will all take part in a service of celebration at Southwell Minster on Thursday 3rd April 2008.

Director of Education for the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, the Revd Dr Howard Worsley said: “This is an exciting year for three of our church secondary schools as they mark different stages in new building projects – one still underway and others very much open for business. We are pleased that our Church Schools are at the forefront of best practice in terms of architecture and project management, but we note that our distinctiveness remains in our reliance on God, 'Unless the Lord builds the house, those who labour will labour in vain.' This will be the theme of the Archbishop's visit to us."

The Archbishop will spend the whole day in the diocese and will visit each school where he will have the chance to meet both pupils and staff, as well as viewing the new buildings. He will have lunch at the Minster School in Southwell and will go on to speak at a service in the Minster, where all three schools will take part.

A more detailed programme for the day with photo and media opportunities will be published early next year.
