Bishop goes in search of Robin Hood with local children

The new Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham will be going on the trail of Robin Hood later this month, when he spends a few hours in Sherwood Forest with children from Edwinstowe Primary School.

The Rt Revd Paul Butler, will meet up with pupils at St Mary’s Church of England Primary School in Edwinstowe on Monday, 28th June, when he will join them for assembly and a tour of the school. He will then walk into the nearby Sherwood Forest with some of the children and staff, who will show him some of the activities they get up to in the forest, which is used as an ‘open air classroom’ by the school.

After the activities in the forest, the children will take the Bishop to the Major Oak, before walking back to school for lunch.

Photo opportunity:
There will be a photo opportunity of the Bishop with some of the children by the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest at 11.30am * (bad weather plan – alternative photo at 11am by Edwinstowe Parish Church, with children near Robin Hood and Maid Marian sign or by church doors)

The Bishop will be joined by the Priest-in-Charge of St Mary’s Church, Edwinstowe, the Revd Alistair Littlewood (St Mary’s is the church at which legends claim Robin Hood married Maid Marian!).
