Bishop promotes ‘Chips’ book as alternative Easter gift
The Bishop of Sherwood will be encouraging church members in Nottingham to take a look at his recently printed children’s book called ‘Chips’, which he hopes will give a fresh insight into the Easter story – through the eyes of a potato!
The Bishop, the Rt Revd Tony Porter said: “I was brought up within sniffing distance of a chip shop and it always makes me think about life. It wasn’t until I was older that I realised how much it cost a potato to become a chip. The potato had to be peeled, sliced and burned in hot fat just so I could feed on him. This analogy gives us all a fresh insight into the pain and sacrifice of the Easter story.”
Copies of ‘Chips’ have been selling well since it was re-printed for the 4th time. Bishop Tony wrote the book when his children were very young in 1979 and it has now been re-illustrated and more than a 1000 copies have been sold in the last three months.
Bishop Tony will be speaking at St Jude’s Church in Mapperley on Sunday, 16th March and will be using elements from the book in his talk.
