Churches offer candlelight and carols with services across the county

Churches across the county are gearing up to welcome people for a range of Christmas services in the coming weeks when they will clock-up some of the highest attendances of the year.

Carol services prove to be a timeless attraction for many, with thousands of people returning to church to experience the special services which point congregations to the heart of the Christmas message.

This week the Minster will welcome members from all three emergency services across the county for the annual Emergency Services Carol service at the Cathedral  tomorrow (Tuesday 15th December), when the Bishop of Sherwood, the Rt Revd Tony Porter will give the address.

Southwell Minster continues to offer two carol services this year with one of the 23rd and another on Christmas Eve, both starting at 7pm. In addition to these very popular services, children are particularly welcome to the Crib service at 2pm on Christmas Eve, when carols will be sung around the cathedral crib.

The Dean, the Very Revd John Guille said: “This is a very special festival for Christians world-wide and we are always pleased to welcome in those of faith or no faith to join in our celebrations. We hope that people will be able to take time to reflect on the real message of Christmas through a range of services that will run in the coming weeks. The cathedral is also open each day for private prayer and reflection.”
