‘City life’ visits for new Bishop
The Rt Revd Paul Butler will be meeting with retail staff, shopping centre managers, magistrates and community support officers, when he spends a day in the centre of Nottingham on Wednesday, 14th July - finding out what makes the city tick for some people working in the commercial sector. The day, which has been organised by Nottingham Workplace Chaplain, the Revd Alison Maddocks, will begin with a visit to John Lewis, where the Bishop will enjoy a tour of the shop and a chance to meet some of the Partners (staff). Over lunch the Bishop will share sandwiches with a group of the local magistrates, including the Chairman of the Bench – Mrs Paula Hammond. He will also be able to find out what it’s like to be a community support officer, when he joins a couple of officers on their beat in the afternoon. His day of visits will end with a visit to Marks and Spencer’s store, next to St Peter’s Church. Alison Maddocks, said: “We wanted to give the Bishop a good insight into the story of the city, so he could find out what it’s like to work here and meet some real people with real stories. We hope that he will make some new discoveries and enjoy this ‘behind the scene’ taste of city life.” PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: 1.
