Nottingham city minister becomes Cathedral Canon

A Christian minister for one of Nottingham’s largest city centre churches, David Shearman, is to be installed as a new ecumenical canon for Southwell Minster - building on the partnership between the Christian denominations in Nottinghamshire.

David Shearman, who leads the Christian Centre on Talbot Street in Nottingham, has been the senior minister at the Assemblies of God church since 1977. He has also written several books, is an international author and serves on several charitable boards including Christian Solidarity Worldwide, which campaigns for persecuted Christians.

David will be installed as an ecumenical canon at a service of Evensong at 3.30pm on Sunday 4th December 2011 in Southwell Minster.

Talking about his new role at the Cathedral, David said: “I am honoured to be offered the position as honorary Ecumenical Canon for Southwell Minster. I truly believe that the church is the hands and feet of Jesus, the only hope of the world and I am excited to serve its wider mission in this capacity."

David will join two other ecumenical canons from other Nottingham churches, including the Roman Catholic Bishop of Nottingham, the Rt Revd Malcolm McMahon, and Pastor at the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Nottingham, the Revd Christian Weaver.

David is well known as a leader of leaders both in the UK and overseas and maintains a busy schedule of preaching and teaching worldwide. The Christian Centre in Nottingham has plans for a multi-million pound building project for its 1400 members.

David is married to Dorothy, the couple have two grown-up children and four grandchildren. As well as spending time with his family, for recreation David enjoys watching sport, the odd round of golf and reading.
