Ferrets 'get-set' to help fund ancient church
Ferrets will be put through their paces in a bid to raise funds for St Wilfrid's Church, Kelham, this weekend.
An evening of Ferret racing has been organised by parishioners in a barn at Manor Farm, Kelham on Saturday 9th June 2007.
There will be five races (heats) and the winner from each heat goes into a Grand Final. Each race has been sponsored, and 25 ‘jockeys’ pay for the privilege of encouraging their ferret to move through plastic tubes as quickly as possible (without physical contact!).
Priest-in-Charge of Averham and Kelham, the Revd Myra Shackley said: "The evening will include a pie and peas supper and there is a licensed bar. 150 tickets have already been sold and we anticipate a very good attendance and lot of flat caps!"
