Narnia Family Fun Day at Southwell Minster

Children will be drawn into the magical world of Narnia next week, when Southwell Minister hosts a family fun day based on the book ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’, by C.S Lewis.

On Saturday 25th October, from 11am-4pm, the Minister will be open to the public, free of charge, for a family day of fun. The day will include story telling, puppetry and exhibitions, with activities at various stations around the cathedral including crafts and facepainting.

Families will have the chance to experience a journey of their own, visiting the cottage belonging to the Beavers and Mr Tumnus, and in a reflective zone, as part of a specially created Labyrinth, they will be able to find much more than a lion, a witch and a wardrobe - discovering the Christian faith behind the stories.

Marketing Officer and one of the organisers, Kathryn Anderson said: “Aswell as running a day for the family to enjoy, we hope the powerful allegory of C.S Lewis’s novel will be discovered by visitors of all ages. It promises to be a magical day for all our visitors.”

Characters in costume including Aslan, The White Witch, Mr Tumnus, Mr Beaver, Father Christmas, will all be making appearances in the cathedral during the day, which will culminate in a pocession around the Minister at 4pm, when children will be invited to wear masks and carry the banners created in the workshops.

The exhibition will continue into the next week during the October half term holiday (27th-31st October).

In addition to the fun day and exhibition, school children from around the area will be taking part in special Narnia educational days at the cathedral next week.
