Nottingham priest to become Cathedral canon

Nottingham priest the Revd Jerry Lepine is to become a canon of Southwell Minster next month, when he will join the governing body of the cathedral as part of the College of Canons.

Rector of St Leonard’s, Wollaton, the Revd Jerry Lepine will be installed as a canon into the stall of ‘Norwell Parishall’ on Sunday 8th March 2009  at an Evensong service starting at 3.30pm.

The Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Revd George Cassidy said: “Jerry has made a fantastic contribution to the life of the diocese, both in Wollaton and further a field in his new role as Area Dean. His energy and enthusiasm to share the gospel have been an inspiration for colleagues and congregations.”

Jerry moved to the diocese in 2002 from a position as Diocesan Evangelism Adviser in the Diocese of Southwark in London and become Rector of St Leonard’s Wollaton.

He went to school in Wimbledon, and completed a degree in Business. This was followed by time as a Travelling Secretary supporting Christian students for the University Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF) in the colleges of London and the Home Counties. He trained for ordination at St John’s theological College in Nottingham and went to work as a curate in Harrow in the Diocese of London, later moving to work as Team Vicar in Horley in the Diocese of Southwark.

He is married to Christina and they have two children - Hannah, who works in TV post production in London and Jared who is a student.

Jerry describes some of his passions as ‘helping people make the journey into faith’, ‘drawing from the riches of every Christian tradition’ and ‘team working that thinks outside the box’. He is also a fan of the annual Christian music and arts festival Greenbelt.

He is a lifelong supporter of Chelsea FC, Sussex County Cricket and French rugby. He enjoys films, a wide spectrum of contemporary music, Romanesque church architecture, gardening and visits to the Globe Theatre.
