Bishop’s tribute to Nottinghamshire clergyman

The Bishop of Sherwood paid tribute to a Nottinghamshire clergyman, the Revd Robert Murray, whose funeral will be held this week.

The Rt Revd Tony Porter, the Bishop of Sherwood, said:”We were deeply saddened by the death of Robert Murray whose funeral will be held on Wednesday.  His ministry was enormously appreciated. He was a humble man with a profound faith - ordinary people found him so approachable and accessible. He was a man of God who was deeply human.”

The Reverend Robert Blake Murray – Priest-in-Charge of Brinsley with Underwood, died in Haywood House at the City Hospital, Nottingham, on Wednesday 29th July 2009 at the age of 60 years.

Robert was ordained as a Deacon in 2000 and Priested in 2001, both in Southwell Diocese, having been a Reader since 1992 at Selston. He was Assistant Curate in Annesley with Newstead from 2000 to 2003 when he moved to Brinsley with Underwood. He originally came to Nottinghamshire from Scotland to work in the textile industry. Following time as a manager with Jersey Kapwood, which became Guilford Europe, he went on to work for the Business Link in the county before becoming a business adviser with Ashfield Primary Care Trust.

He leaves a wife, Liz and two children, Rebecca and William.

The funeral will take place in St Michael's Church, Underwood, on Wednesday 12th August at 11.30am. The committal will be at Mansfield Crematorium on Wednesday 12th at 1pm.
