School children's designs for Bishop’s Christmas card

Children from North Wheatley Church of England Primary School have designed the Christmas card (see image attached) that will be sent out by the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham this year.

The colourful  designs included shepherds, stars and sheep and a traditional stable scene, with the front cover displaying a swirl of stars with a shepherd and sheep, by Bethan Huxley (aged 9) from Hayton, and supporting back designs by Patrick Cooper (aged 10) and Katie Hayward (aged 8) from North Wheatley.

The Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Revd Paul Butler, said: "It's good to be able to showcase a child's interpretation of the Christmas story and I'm really pleased we can share their talent with the wider community. I particularly wanted to involve a school in the design, especially as 2011 is the 200th anniversary of free Christian Education through our church schools, which we will be celebrating over the coming 12 months."

Headteacher, Joanna Hall said: "We felt very priveleged and delighted to be asked to design the card for Bishop Paul. All our pupils were eager to design a really special card for him and to share  their artistic talents with a wider audience. We hope that everyone who receives the card wil enjoy looking at the designs  as much as the pupils enjoyed creating them."
