Thousands of children will be joining in with church-run summer holiday clubs starting this week across Nottinghamshire. Around 1,500 children will take part in the 25 or so church-based Holiday Clubs this summer around the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, with upwards of 250 adult volunteers working with them. These holiday clubs are dotted across towns and cities, with the most rural being at Colston Bassett, and the largest at Wilford in Nottingham where they expect to work with upwards of 350 young people. “Holiday Clubs are really great fun events. They serve the community, and help children have fun while learning more about the church and the Christian faith, “ said Nick Harding, Children's Ministry Adviser for the diocese. The Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Revd George Cassidy, has thanked the churches on behalf of the diocese, he said: “We are grateful for all the hard work many of our churches are investing into these events. As well as all the work in the term time with church schools, I’m thrilled that our churches are continuing to work with children during the holidays.” Nick Harding will be visiting many of the Holiday Clubs this summer to thank the teams personally for their work with children.
